Arena.Xlsm Known Bug: 1004 run time error

1004 run time error (Unable to set the Text property of the Characters class).
The error pops up as soon as you kill the first enemy.
The error appears to be limited to a few players using Excel 2007, I have identified the code that is causing the problem. I need to test the fix before releasing it. If all goes well, the fix should be released next weekend. In the mean time, as a temporary workaround, if you have access to Excel 2010, you should be able to play the game free of any errors.

Doesnt work on Office for MAC, just thought i would point that out
That is correct, the Mac versions of excel are missing key functions that are required to make the game work. It will work on Excel 2007, 2010, and 2013 for PC only. For more information see: http://arenaxlsm.wikia.com/wiki/Macros

I was able to get rid of the run-time error but now there are some cosmetic issues that are impacting that version that I need to deal with before releasing the next version. EDIT: Please e-mail me.

That’s what I call irony of life – publishing a role-playing game that generates a bug in the *student* edition. ;o)
Anyway – great game! (thoroughly tested at work…) Incredible how much fun is still possible with simple ASCII-graphics

Hi Cary. I’m a teacher looking forward to presenting your game to students as an example of what a little imagination and application of code logic can allow them to do. I also have the runtime error on 2007 v12 SP3, but it looks like you have plenty of testers. Sing out if you want more.
Same issue here, running Small Business 2007 (12.0.6665.5003) SP3 MSO (12.0.6662.5000). Willing to do some beta testing after Easter Monday if the issue is unresolved and it’s needed. (sorry for the catch, but it’s my work PC, and I’ll have no access – or desire to access it, for that matter – over the weekend).

Please send me a copy of your game file as well as let me know the specific version of excel you are using (ie. is it the non-commercial edition? If you go into Excel options and then click “resources” in the left tab, what version number appears under “about Microsoft Office Excel 2007”?). I need to be able to recreate your error in order to fix it. Does the error occur when opening the game? When starting a new game? When attempting to use keyboard controls?
